Surround Yourself With Dreamers And The Doers, The Believers and Thinkers, But Most Of All Surround Yourself With Those Who See Greatness Within You, Even When You Don't See It Yourself
-Edmund Lee
Welcome to the January edition of the Straight Up Mindset Blog. This months series is called the Prove It Series. First weeks topic was over Accountability. This weeks topic is over Build Your Circle
In order for you to push yourself everyday you have to surround yourself with people who push you pass your limits. Your circle of people should be those who are either in your ideal job/position or working towards the same goal. It's OK to have a tight inner circle of friends that you have known all your life and wouldn't trade them for anything. I get it and I'm not saying you need to just throw those friends to the side. I'm saying that in order to be a boss, you have to be around those who are bosses. You can't hang around mediocre people and expect boss type results. There is an old saying that goes "Show me your friends and I will show you your future"
That saying is very true. Birds of a feather flock together. You hang and surround yourself with folks who are mediocre and don't have any ambition in life. I promise you that is how you will end up. Some will catch themselves doing the same mundane dead end job and always complaining. They will say,' I could have been this or I should have done that". Be around people who have the same appetite for success as you do. Hang around people who make level up. We talked about this before in one of our previous blogs Iron Sharpens Iron.
The people in your life need to challenge you in these three ways: Physically, Mentally, Emotionally. They need to be able to stretch you, so you are always getting better and always improving. The carrot needs to always be dangling in front of you, otherwise complacency sets in. See, if you have the right type of people around you they will always be achieving new things. Something that keeps you on your game and makes you say, "I better get my butt in gear and start grinding." If you start to slack or just completely stop, the people in your circle will say, "Hey whats going on? I haven't heard from you or seen any updates, what's the problem?"
As mentioned earlier in this blog look at those that are higher up on the ladder for guidance. They have mentors, advisers, life coaches....etc that constantly help guide them down the right path and continue to grind. I bet you that if Warren Buffet feels like slacking, he thinks about the big strides and achievements Ray Dalio is making or how Tony Robbins is not too far behind him trying to take the throne of wealthiest man. If Les Brown is thinking about cutting a few corners or skipping a day or two because he just doesn't have the energy, he thinks about how Eric Thomas is right on his heels or about to surpass him as one of the greatest public speakers.
They all know each other and are each a part of each other's circle. Pushing one another to strive for more and to push harder towards greatness. So choose your friends and associates carefully. Make sure that they add to your life in some form or fashion and that they don't hinder you or set you back. Have a strong group of friends and have a strong team. I promise you there is no ceiling to your potential.
