Work Ethic

Welcome to the Straight Up Mindset Blog!

So let’s recap real quick over what has been talked about over the past few weeks. First week we talked about Character. "Your talent can take you to a lot of places, but great Character will keep you there"

Second week we touched on Integrity. "Money can be re-earned, Love can be reignited, material items can be replaced but Integrity....IS UNRECOVERABLE! Guard it with your life!"

Today's blog is over Work Ethic. The definition of Work Ethic is "A belief in the moral benefit and importance of work and its inherent ability to strengthen character" It is the core and one of the most important aspects when trying to obtain your goals.

What this means is you have to put in 110% and grind down to the bone. It means putting in work when no one is watching because you are trying to achieve greatness. Not when your boss tells you to, not when you have a due date. It’s when you are by yourself, in the dark, fighting through the pain, fighting through the doubt so when the lights come on its SHOW TIME!  See many people are afraid of work. They shy away from it; they run from it, DON'T RUN FROM IT RUN TOWARDS IT! Ann Landers said it best, "Opportunity Is Disguised as Hard Work" and because of that, a lot of you are running away from the very thing that is going to take you to where you want to go. Life will give back to you what you put in. So why not put in 110% because the return will be just as great and even more.

Like the definition states when you have Work Ethic it strengthens your Character because when you say you are going to do something you do it and you get it done. It builds your Integrity cause when you have a Strong Work Ethic you do what you say and you say what you mean because you have built up that equity from always following through with your word because you go all out.

So I challenge you to quit running from Work and Start Putting in WORK! If you want it bad enough any other way isn't even an option

Integrity

Ok so last weeks blog was over Character, "Your talent can take you to a lot of places, but great Character will keep you there."

This week’s blog is over Integrity, it is one of the key ingredients to building good character. Integrity is one of those things that takes a lot of work to build up, but only takes one bad decision to ruin for the rest of your life. Integrity is choosing your thoughts and actions based on values rather than personal gain.

Look at it this way, Money can be re-earned, Love can be reignited, material items can be replaced but Integrity......IS UNRECOVERABLE. Guard it with your life, live in such a way that if anyone would speak badly of you nobody would believe it because you have built the type of integrity. No one will question you.

Now sometimes it will require you to make the unpopular choice, but you are not here to win a popularity contest. You make the right decision because it is the right thing to do and you do it knowing that nobody is going to know whether you did it or not.

It is one of the absolute essentials for success in life, all areas of life. It is not backed by your words, but more so by your actions. It is never compromising your ideals or values regardless of the consequences, even if it hurts your bottom line.

So I challenge you to really evaluate yourself and make sure that you are doing things that build your integrity and not tear it down. Once you lose it, it will be an uphill battle for you to get it back to where it once was.

Character

Having talent doesn’t matter, if your character sucks.  Your talent can take you to a lot of places, but great Character will keep you there.  We need you to understand that Character really counts. So, we want to share a few things with you to help you take your Character to the next level

The first thing you have to do, is keep Developing your Character.  You will always have good days and bad days, but you can always learn something more.  More about yourself, more about your relationships, and even more overall on those bad days, than you do the good.  If you want to keep Developing your character, you must continue you to engage in consistent positive action in every situation that you’re faced with.  Like for instance.  If you know that your Attitude is a troubling area in your life, don’t argue with someone the next time they get on your nerves or say something you don’t like.  You will never start the process on fixing that downfall in your life, until you are put in a tough situation and you start to think before you react.  Your response to any situation will determine the outcome.  You can’t fake your Character, sooner or later the real you will come out.

The second thing is Keep going when you’re in those tough moments.  If you didn’t go through the things you have gone through, you wouldn’t be the Amazing person you are today.  When you go through the tough or challenging times in life, you are building your Character and setting yourself up to handle any situation that comes your way, good or bad.   Here are few things in life you should make note of while developing your Character.

1.       Honesty

2.       Commitment

3.       Positive Attitude

4.       Approach and Response to things

5.       Ability to Inspire others

Listen guys these are just a few things that we have come to learn that helps build Great Character.  Unfortunately, these things are not the primary Key!  The Key is ultimately in you.  You see, we can tell you several things to help you continue to develop your Character, but at the end of the day, it’s up to you.

January: Straight Up Mindset 30 Day Challenge

“There is NO challenge more challenging than the challenge to improve yourself.” ~ Michael F. Staley

It’s one thing to talk about your Dreams, but it’s a different story to make them a reality.  This is the year to Take Action, No more Talking, it’s time to Grind!  Are you giving your best effort every day?  Are you pushing yourself to your limits?  I need you to love yourself enough to be honest with yourself.  If you see yourself doing the things you want to do in Life, you can’t keep dreaming, you have to take Action!

So, week 1 was a two-step process, we told you to Write It Down, then get to Work.  Those Dreams and Goals will not get accomplished with you not being focused, lack of effort, or with excuses.  If you see yourself getting to that next level, you have to get to Work!

Week 2 was about Consistency.  We said that one of the Key components to accomplishing what you want in life is to be Consistent.  No matter what you are pursuing, whether it’s (Health, Work, or even Relationships) you have to be Consistent.  We have come to learn, that every successful person was once an ordinary person, no different than you and me, the difference is they have developed the habits necessary to make small, but Consistent improvements day in and day out.  So the start to it all is being Consistent in every aspect of your life and holding yourself accountable.

Week 3 was Iron Sharpens Iron, so one man sharpens another.  You must find an accountability partner to help you uphold your word.  Getting a group of people around you that will stretch you, that will encourage you, and that will push you passed your comfort zone.  So the key here is not only to hold yourself accountable, but to have people around you to hold you accountable as well.

The final week of the month, we are challenging you.  We are going to push you out of your comfort zone and force you to take your life to the next level.  So for the next 30 days, we want you to write down a tough goal, for example (better health, building better relationships, putting your best foot forward at work).  Whatever it is that your struggling with and been pushing off for a while, we need you to draw a line in the sand and make a decision that you are going to tackle it head on.  After you write it down, we need you to get to work on it.  You can’t just talk about it, you have to be about it.  Then we need you to be consistent.  So for the next 30 days, we need you to work on it, give us your best effort and stay the course.  Finally, we need you to find that one person you trust and tell them what your goal is, so there is someone to hold you accountable.  Do us a huge favor, be honest with yourself on this, if you want it to work, if you want to take your life to the next level, please take this serious.

Iron Sharpens Iron

Iron Sharpens Iron

“Accountability is the glue that ties commitment to the result.”— Bob Proctor

Recaps from weeks one and two. Week one was Taking Action, write it down and get to work.  Week two was about Consistency, building good habits, and holding yourself Accountable.  This week is about having someone you trust to hold you Accountable and to make sure you uphold your word.  Here are a few traits that you should look for in an Accountability partner.

So a good example of someone who can help you maintain a high level of consistency or to help raise the bar is KEY.  For instance, Lebron James and Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavilers. One could not have won a championship in Cleveland without the other. Lebron is the greatest player in the world right now but Lebron needed Kyrie to help take some of the load off of him and to help get the offense going in order to overcome the Juggernaut team Golden State Warriors. Kyrie needed Lebron to help him become the player he is and a force to be wreckin with today. Both of their games have grown because of one another and that relationship is helping them be a possible repeat World NBA Champion.

The reason for having an accountability partner is because you can’t do everything by yourself.  You must have someone else to help take off some of the load.  The negative for continuing to do things on your own, is it will never get done.  “No man is an Island,” you are not by yourself.  Just like Rome wasn’t built in a day or the Egyptian Pyramids weren’t built by one man.  I know you don’t like to be vulnerable, but you cannot be afraid for them to see your weaknesses.  You have to be open, honest, and willing to be held accountable.

It is very important to have a solid foundation of people around you, that stretches you, that challenges you, and gets you out of your comfort zone.  Also, making sure that your Accountability partner or your inner circle are all on the same page.  We need you to make a commitment to yourself, that you will make no excuses and you will do what you say you’re going to do.  So write it down, get to work, stay consistent, and find you a partner you trust to hold you accountable, if you do these things, you will make your goals a reality.

CONSISTENCY!

We are 2 weeks into 2017, folks have set their resolutions and have begun work on them. Dont let that flame wither away, keep it going and push forward towards your goals whatever they may be.

The first week was about "Taking Action in 2017" Dream so Big that it scares the small mind.Grind so hard, that being overlooked will never be in the cards.

The second week was about "Write It Down & Grind".  Every day you don’t get up, every day you say no, every day you go half speed, you are pushing goals back further and further.  If you want to get to that next level, first write it down and second, it is going to take WORK!! No excuses, No pointing the finger because its all on you and you have to accept that if you don't make it happen no one else will.

This weeks blog is going to be over CONSISTENCY. Consistency is one of the key components of being able to accomplish the things in life that you want. Without consistency the road to your destination will be a dead end.

I was watching the Cowboys game the other day and they were talking about Ezekiel Elliot. They spoke about How he was just punishing the defense with his tough hard nose run style. Someone stated that he gets stronger as the game goes on . The other analysts, who was a former player said, "it's not that he gets stronger as the game goes on, it's that the other team breaks down."

It dawned on me and what he was saying clicked. In life those that succeed or preserver are the ones who are the most consistent and can maintain that high level of determination and discipline that wins games. Those that can't, break down, give up and make excuses as to why they didn't finish. Those who have a will and a strong why stay with it, instead of letting obstacles and adversity beat them down, they stay on the course and break down the obstacle and break down adversity to win the game

So remember consistency is the key. No matter what it is you are trying to pursue, be consistent. Make sure you are coming with the same mindset, intensity, determination and game plan to execute day in and day out. This builds good habits, builds good character and also it builds a reputation for you that others will see and want to be apart of because they know that you are going to bring it every time.

Write It Down & Grind

“A dream written down with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes your dreams come true.” ~Greg Reid

2016 is over, it’s in the past, leave it there and let’s move forward.  In 2017 we are Taking Action, so what we need you to do is Less Talking and to Grind More!!  Talking is cheap, Actions speak way louder than words.  So, there are a few things you can do, to Take Action and go to the next level in this year.

The first thing is to write some of your goals down.  The Bigger the Better.  The very first level to success in life, school, or work is seeing it first.  It must be clear to you.  You need to know what it looks like, what it tastes like, and what it smells like.  When you write it down, put it in a place that you visit every morning, evening, and night. (bathroom, car, bedroom mirror, etc.) You need to constantly see them and be reminded of your goals.   One important fact that you must get, is your goals are yours to lose.  It is up to you to make a stand right now and go achieve them.

The second thing is you have to Grind.  “Find a man who is diligent at what he does and he shall stand before Kings and not mean men.” (Proverbs 22:29)  Every day you don’t get up, every day you say no, every day you go half speed, you are pushing goals back further and further.  If you want to get to that next level it is going to take WORK!!  Listen, quitting is NOT an option, losing is NOT an option, saying no or being told no is NOT an option.  You have to give the absolute best version of yourself in order to be successful.

I’m telling you right now, if you do these two things you will be on the path to take yourself places you have never been.  Do yourself a favor, don’t quit, don’t give up, and never surrender.  Don’t wait on somebody to support your Goals, they're your goals.  This is your year, this is your moment, seize the moment, because tomorrow isn’t promised.  If you want things to happen this year, get up and make them happen.  No more excuses, just make every adjustment you must make, to accomplish everything you set out to accomplish this year.  We need you to Take Action right now!!!
